Notes regarding the Pirc Defense with e5 push

27 Apr 2013

Just finished up playing through a three matches of the Pirc and found the White e5 with Shirov Attack a tough nut to crack.  Black's Queen on d7 seems ill placed especially since the knight on g4 is certain to be chased after with White's h and g pawns.  I do like the fact that out of all this White's king-side is totally disrupted and can't be used for cover.

Additionally, the thought of going queen-side (something I'm against doing) seems plausible to a degree if done right.

For those interested in those matches I'm playing they are located at the start of chapter two of the book The Pirc: as Black and White.

I would appreciate any comments regarding this section which involves the e5 push by White outside of what I've learned from the book.

Cheers,
James
